1930 Ford Model A Hot Rod Showcases American Ingenuity at DFW Car & Toy Museum

The DFW Car & Toy Museum in Fort Worth is currently showcasing a stunning 1930 Ford Model A five-window coupe, transformed into a custom-built street rod, as part of the Ron Sturgeon Collection. This hot rod, powered by a 302ci V8 engine, represents the perfect blend of nostalgia and performance, embodying the spirit of American car customization.

Featuring a Z'd, partially boxed frame with Model B-style front suspension and enhanced by disc brake spindles, a panhard bar, radius rods, and shocks, the coupe offers a glimpse into the technical prowess of hot rod builders. The rear is equipped with ladder bars and coil overs for a stable yet aggressive ride, while braking is managed by front discs and rear drums, staying true to hot rod traditions.

The engine, rebuilt in 2018, boasts Billet Specialties valve covers, billet pulleys, MSD ignition, Patriot 'outside chassis' headers, and dual Edelbrock carburetors. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a C10 three-speed automatic transmission mounted to a tubular crossmember. Inside, the car features a four-spoke steering wheel and a VDO gauge cluster, merging classic aesthetics with modern performance metrics.

Ron Sturgeon, museum founder and collector, describes the car as 'loud, proud, and unapologetically fun—just the way a hot rod should be,' celebrating the American ingenuity and craftsmanship that went into its creation. The 1930 Ford Model A Hot Rod is now a centerpiece at the DFW Car & Toy Museum, offering free admission to visitors eager to experience a piece of automotive history.
