1974 Ford Mustang II Drag Car Joins Ron Sturgeon Collection, Celebrating Drag Racing Heritage
A 1974 Ford Mustang II Drag Car, a symbol of American horsepower and grassroots drag racing, has been added to the Ron Sturgeon Collection, highlighting the era's raw power and racing culture.

The 1974 Ford Mustang II Drag Car, a testament to the golden age of grassroots drag racing, has become a centerpiece of the Ron Sturgeon Collection. This vehicle, originally a body-in-white shell, was transformed in the mid-1970s into a drag racing powerhouse, equipped with a 468ci Chevrolet big-block V8 and a suite of performance enhancements designed for quarter-mile dominance.
Featuring a Holley 1050 CFM carburetor, Edelbrock intake manifold, and open long-tube headers, the Mustang's engine is a marvel of racing engineering. The car's exterior, adorned with 1980s-era white and orange livery and sponsor graphics, serves as a visual homage to drag racing's unfiltered heyday. Inside, the Mustang is all business, with a B&M floor shifter, fire extinguisher, and a cockpit designed for speed.
Ron Sturgeon, founder of the DFW Car & Toy Museum, remarked on the car's significance, noting its embodiment of the grit and power of its era. The Mustang's inclusion in the collection not only preserves a piece of racing history but also celebrates the cultural and technological milestones of American drag racing.
