Amprion Appoints Katrin Hilmer as COO Amid Energy Transition Expansion
Amprion GmbH's appointment of Katrin Hilmer as Chief Operating Officer strengthens its management team to support Germany's growing energy infrastructure demands and workforce expansion.

The Supervisory Board of Amprion GmbH has appointed Katrin Hilmer as Chief Operating Officer and Director of Labor Relations, effective 1 April 2026, marking a strategic enhancement to the company's leadership during a period of significant growth in Germany's energy sector. This appointment comes as Amprion's responsibility for transforming the energy system expands, with employee numbers growing by an average of 13 percent over the past five years.
Hilmer, currently Managing Director of DB Energie GmbH, will oversee human resources, operations, occupational safety, and European affairs, joining CEO Dr. Christoph Müller, CTO Dr. Hendrik Neumann, and CFO Peter Rüth on the management team. Uwe Tigges, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, emphasized that Hilmer's broad expertise supports the company's commitment to increasing female representation in leadership roles across the organization.
The appointment underscores Amprion's critical role in Germany's energy transition, which Hilmer described as a "generational project" reliant on robust infrastructure. As one of four transmission system operators in Germany, Amprion manages an 11,000-kilometer extra-high voltage grid from the North Sea to the Alps, supporting one-third of the country's economic output and 29 million people. Hilmer brings extensive experience from her tenure at DB Energie GmbH since 2022, where she managed human resources and security, following international roles in the USA, Spain, and France, and previous leadership positions within DB Group and DB InfraGO AG. This move aligns with Amprion's ongoing grid expansion efforts to achieve a climate-neutral energy system, supported by over 3,100 employees across more than 30 locations.
