Animal Rescue Organizations Collaborate on Thrifty Kitty Pop-Up Boutique to Support Second Chances for Pets

Two South Florida animal rescue organizations are joining forces for a unique fundraising event that combines fashion shopping with pet adoption opportunities. PURRR Adoption + Sanctuary and Abandoned Pet Rescue will host the Thrifty Kitty Pop-Up Boutique on Tuesday, September 30, as part of National Happy Cat Month celebrations. The event represents a creative approach to animal welfare fundraising that directly supports both organizations' missions of providing second chances for homeless animals.

The evening will feature a Buy-A-Bag, Fill-A-Bag shopping experience where attendees can purchase full bags for $50 or half bags for $25 and fill them with men's and women's fashion items. Luxury brands and wedding dresses will be available for purchase at thrift pricing separately from the bag program. More importantly, the event will serve as an adoption opportunity where potential pet owners can meet adoptable cats and dogs and complete adoption applications on-site.

Executive Director of PURRR Adoption + Sanctuary Michelle Schecht emphasized the significance of the collaboration, stating that partnering with Abandoned Pet Rescue means twice the impact for animals in need. Every bag purchased helps provide second chances for cats and dogs while connecting future pet parents with their forever companions. Proceeds from the event will be equally divided between both organizations, ensuring continued support for their lifesaving work.

PURRR Adoption + Sanctuary, founded in 2018, focuses on transforming cats' lives through rescue, adoption, and spay/neuter initiatives that address overpopulation issues. The organization is committed to enriching the human-feline connection through responsible pet ownership advocacy. Established in 1996, Abandoned Pet Rescue is one of South Florida's largest no-kill shelters, having provided comprehensive care for more than 10,000 dogs and cats over the past decade while maintaining capacity for 150 cats and 35 dogs.

The event will take place at PURRR Adoption + Sanctuary's location at 1556 E. Commercial Blvd. in Oakland Park, FL, with a sneak peek from 4-5 p.m. and general admission from 5-8 p.m. Admission is free, and additional information is available at https://www.purrr.org/event/thrifty-kitty-pop-up-boutique-september-2025/. This collaborative effort demonstrates how nonprofit organizations can innovate fundraising strategies while simultaneously addressing animal welfare needs and promoting pet adoption in the community.
