Author Tim Kirk to Launch Rock and Roll Novel at Martial Arts History Museum with Free Event
The Martial Arts History Museum hosts a free book signing for Tim Kirk's debut novel 'All My Damned Mother's Sons,' blending music history with martial arts culture through a personal family connection.

The Martial Arts History Museum will host a book signing and reading event with author Tim Kirk on September 6, 2025, celebrating the launch of his debut novel All My Damned Mother's Sons. The free event at 4 p.m. marks a unique intersection of literary arts and martial culture, featuring both a reading and a martial arts demonstration by Kirk's daughter, a black belt in Tang Soo Do.
Kirk described the novel as a passion project inspired by early rock and roll artists, particularly those who did not achieve the fame of Elvis Presley. The book follows a singer and guitarist tracing Elvis's path from 1959 to 1973, immersing readers in the music, style, and fashion of the era. Kirk stated, "I was inspired by many of the singers and songwriters who didn't get a chance to ride down the golden road that Elvis paved, and by Elvis who did. I'm glad I wrote it because, ultimately, it rocks."
The author selected the Martial Arts History Museum due to his personal connection to martial arts, noting that his daughter's achievements influenced the venue choice. Kirk explained, "When I discovered the Martial Arts History Museum, I immediately felt that this was the place I'd like to launch the book signing." The museum, located at 201 N. Brand Blvd. in Glendale, California, is the world's first institution dedicated to preserving martial arts history, offering exhibits that explore the cultural impact and evolution of these disciplines.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to view the museum's exhibits before the 4 p.m. reading. This event highlights how cultural institutions like the Martial Arts History Museum serve as community hubs beyond their primary focus, fostering interdisciplinary connections between arts, history, and personal narratives. The blending of rock music history with martial arts demonstrates the museum's role in supporting diverse artistic expressions and educational outreach.
