Ayush Shetty Advances to US Open 2025 Badminton Semi-Finals
Ayush Shetty and Tanvi Sharma secure spots in the US Open 2025 badminton semi-finals, marking significant progress for India in the tournament.

Ayush Shetty, ranked 34th in the men's singles badminton rankings, made a remarkable comeback to defeat former junior world champion Kuo Kuan-lin of Chinese Taipei in the quarter-finals of the US Open 2025. The match, which lasted 38 minutes, saw Shetty overcoming a 19-16 deficit in the first game to win 22-20, 21-9. This victory sets up a semi-final clash with top seed and world No. 6 Chou Tien-chen, a rematch of their encounter at the Taipei Open earlier this year where Chou emerged victorious.
Shetty's performance at the BWF Super 300 tournament in Iowa highlights his growing prominence in international badminton, marking his third semi-final appearance this year following his success at the Orleans Masters in March. Meanwhile, Tanvi Sharma, ranked 66th globally, also advanced to the semi-finals after a convincing win over Malaysia's Letshanaa Karupathevan. Sharma is set to face Ukraine's Polina Buhrova, the seventh seed, in the next round.
Despite these individual successes, India's campaign in the doubles events concluded earlier than hoped. The men's doubles pair of Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi, along with the women's duo of Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra, were eliminated in the quarter-finals and earlier rounds, respectively. The mixed doubles team of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto also faced an early exit, rounding off a mixed tournament for India.
