Boston Furniture Maker Tommy Mac Opens First Showroom in Financial District
Boston native Tommy MacDonald opens his first public showroom at 155 Federal Street, expanding access to his handcrafted furniture collection and supporting Massachusetts artisans.

Tommy MacDonald, Boston native and former host of Rough Cut: Woodworking with Tommy Mac on PBS, has opened his first public showroom at 155 Federal Street in Boston's Financial District. The new space features MacDonald's signature collection of rockers, armchairs, kitchen stools, live edge tables, beds, and other furniture pieces, all handcrafted at his North End workshop using North American hardwoods.
With growing demand for locally made, high-quality furniture, MacDonald recognized an opportunity to create a space where customers could experience his work in person and connect with the craftsmanship behind each piece. The showroom will also feature additional works from local makers, celebrating Massachusetts design traditions and supporting the state's artistic community. MacDonald emphasized that the showroom represents more than just a retail space, serving as a destination where people can discover unique furniture pieces and meet the artisans who create them.
The centerpiece of the collection is the luxury arts-and-crafts-inspired rocker named after MacDonald's mother, Millie, honoring her love of rocking chairs. The rocker features traditional joinery techniques including through-mortise wedged tenons and bent-laminated rockers, with each cushion containing a nine-spring, eight-tie seat foundation topped with plush down cushioning. The collection also includes versatile armchairs with multiple reclining settings and kitchen stools crafted with single-board seats and wedged tenon joints for durability.
Michael Nichols, President of the Downtown Boston Alliance, welcomed MacDonald's arrival to the Financial District, noting that he joins a community of makers showcasing their workmanship to the millions of visitors who frequent downtown Boston each month. The showroom operates Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday by appointment only. Each piece in the Tommy Mac Collection is handmade in Massachusetts in limited quantities, ensuring authenticity and lasting quality. The opening represents a significant expansion for the custom furniture business, which MacDonald established in 2005 and has operated from his North End workshop since 2020. The showroom opening signals growing consumer interest in locally sourced, artisanal furniture and supports the broader movement toward sustainable, quality craftsmanship in home furnishings.
