Brazil Potash has appointed Marcelo Lessa to its advisory board, signaling a strategic move to enhance its project financing capabilities. Lessa brings over three decades of agriculture finance and investment expertise, including 16 years of experience with the International Finance Corporation (IFC)/World Bank.

The appointment comes at a crucial time for Brazil Potash's Autazes Project, a potash development aimed at reducing Brazil's heavy reliance on fertilizer imports. With Lessa's deep knowledge of securing funding for major agricultural and infrastructure projects, the company expects to strengthen its construction financing strategy.

Brazil currently imports over 95% of its potash fertilizer, despite possessing one of the world's largest undeveloped potash basins. The Autazes Project aims to produce up to 2.4 million tons of potash annually, potentially supplying approximately 20% of Brazil's current domestic demand.

Lessa's expertise is expected to be pivotal in navigating the complex financing landscape for this critical mineral project. By developing domestic potash production, Brazil Potash not only seeks to enhance national agricultural self-sufficiency but also anticipates mitigating approximately 1.4 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually.

The project's strategic partnership with Amaggi, one of Brazil's largest agricultural logistics operators, further underscores the potential for efficient, low-cost potash transportation via inland river systems.
