Broward Education Foundation Announces 2025 Sports Hall of Fame Inductees
The Broward Education Foundation will induct six individuals and five championship teams into the 2025 Broward County Sports Hall of Fame, recognizing their athletic achievements and community impact while supporting educational initiatives through the nonprofit organization.

The Broward Education Foundation announced the 2025 class of inductees for the Broward County Sports Hall of Fame, recognizing six individuals and five championship teams for their athletic accomplishments and community contributions. The induction ceremony marks the 22nd year of the program that honors athletes, coaches, and sports pioneers who are or have been Broward County residents.
The 2025 class includes Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Isaac Bruce, who played 16 NFL seasons primarily with the St. Louis Rams and sealed the Rams' Super Bowl XXXIV victory with a memorable 73-yard touchdown catch. Bruce, a Dillard High School graduate, founded the Isaac Bruce Foundation to promote youth health, wellness, and education. Professional rodeo athlete Isaac Diaz brings recognition from the saddle bronc riding circuit with over $1.5 million in career earnings and seven Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifications.
Dr. Daniel Kanell represents the sports medicine field, having served as team physician for the Miami Dolphins, Miami Marlins, Fort Lauderdale Strikers, and Miami Fusion. Dr. Kanell helped launch the Broward County School Board Sports Medicine Program and served as president of the Broward County Orthopaedic Society. Kathryn 'Kathy' Sallade, a trailblazing swimmer, became the world's fastest deaf backstroker, winning five gold medals and setting five world records across the 1969 and 1973 Deaflympics.
Major League Baseball standout Scot Shields enjoyed a 10-year career as one of baseball's most reliable setup pitchers, contributing to the Anaheim Angels' 2002 World Series Championship. Sports Illustrated named him 'Set-Up Man of the Decade' for the 2000s. Steve Strand has been a fixture at St. Thomas Aquinas High School for more than four decades, serving as head coach of the boys' basketball program from 1996 to 2019 and leading the team to its first state championship in 2001.
The Cardinal Gibbons High School 1975-1979 4A Women's Volleyball Teams captured five consecutive FHSAA state championships under legendary head coach Louise A. Crocco, establishing one of Florida's most dominant dynasties during a period of rapid growth in women's athletics following Title IX. Their accomplishments remain a cornerstone of Broward County's sports heritage.

The 2025 class is exceptional, not only for their athletic talents, but for their dedication and commitment to excellence. They are an inspiration to our students and the community.'
