Cancer Support Community SF Bay Area Breaks Ground on New Support Center with $30 Million Campaign
Cancer Support Community SF Bay Area celebrates groundbreaking of an innovative cancer support center in Lafayette, California, marking the final phase of a $30 million capital campaign that will dramatically expand free supportive services for cancer patients and their families.

Cancer Support Community San Francisco Bay Area has initiated the final phase of its Capital Campaign, 'Rooted in Resilience,' by breaking ground on a new state-of-the-art support center in Lafayette, California. The $30 million project, bolstered by a $5 million anonymous donation match, represents a significant expansion of comprehensive cancer support services in the Bay Area.
The new six-acre campus will feature advanced facilities designed to provide holistic support for cancer patients, including support rooms, counseling spaces, art studios, a demonstration kitchen, and healing gardens. With state-of-the-art technology enabling in-person, virtual, and hybrid programming, the center aims to increase accessibility and reach for its free supportive care services.
CSC SF Bay Area CEO Lucinda Bazile emphasized the significance of the project, stating that the groundbreaking represents more than just a new building, but 'the beginning of a new era of compassion, innovation, and resilience in cancer support services.' Local officials, including Lafayette Mayor Susan Candell and Congressman Mark DeSaulnier, praised the organization's commitment to supporting cancer-affected communities.
Since its founding in 1990, the organization has provided comprehensive support programs including counseling, support groups, nutrition guidance, exercise classes, emergency financial assistance, and specialized programs for children and teens. The new facility is expected to double the organization's capacity to serve individuals and families impacted by cancer, offering culturally responsive and compassionate support entirely free of charge.
With $2.6 million remaining in their fundraising goal, the Cancer Support Community SF Bay Area continues to invite community support to complete this transformative project. The new center represents a significant milestone in addressing the psychosocial needs of cancer patients and their families in the Bay Area.
