CFHV Report Highlights Community Needs and Strengths in Hudson Valley

The Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley (CFHV) has unveiled the 'Voices of the Hudson Valley' report, a comprehensive analysis of community feedback from Dutchess, Putnam, and Ulster counties. This initiative aims to shape CFHV's future grantmaking strategies by highlighting the region's most pressing needs and valued attributes.

Laura Washington, president & CEO of CFHV, emphasized the report's role as a roadmap for fostering a stronger, more connected Hudson Valley. It reflects the community's diverse perspectives, including those of residents, nonprofit leaders, and business officials, offering a detailed look at what makes the region unique and what challenges it faces.

Among the report's findings, the Hudson Valley's rich cultural and natural assets stand out as key strengths, from urban art to historic sites and natural landscapes. However, it also identifies significant concerns such as housing affordability, food insecurity, mental health and addiction crises, dwindling childcare options, and inadequate public transportation in rural areas.

In response, CFHV plans to organize panel discussions with community experts to delve deeper into these issues, encouraging public engagement through volunteering or donations. The foundation views this report not as a one-off project but as a springboard for sustained community improvement, ensuring that grant allocations are closely aligned with the priorities identified by local residents.
