Chimera BMX Partners with Handlworks for Enhanced Electric BMX Controller Production

Chimera BMX and Handlworks have announced a partnership that combines OEM-level supply capabilities with a dominant electric vehicle platform, marking a significant development in the high-performance electric bicycle industry. The collaboration leverages Handlworks's production expertise to manufacture custom BAC855 controllers designed specifically for Chimera's electric BMX bikes, promising enhanced durability and long-term performance.

Handlworks, described as an ebike speedshop, provides performance-enhancing components including customized controllers, batteries, and motors, supported by in-house engineering and dyno testing capabilities. The company's production line will now build potted BAC855 controllers to Chimera's exact design specifications, addressing the growing demand for reliable, high-performance electric bicycle components.

Austin Duggan, Founder of Chimera BMX, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership, stating that while his company has been successfully tuning and wiring its own BAC855 controllers since its 2022 launch, the process required significant resources. The collaboration with Handlworks provides a more sophisticated testing and tuning approach with excellent quality control, ensuring better plug-and-play solutions as Chimera scales its operations.

Harrison Lu, Founder of Handlworks, framed the partnership as following the natural evolution of scaling businesses, where OEMs need trusted industry partners to maintain quality standards and design direction while focusing on expansion and product development. The collaboration positions both companies to capitalize on the growing high-performance electric bicycle segment, particularly in the competitive Southern California market.

Chimera has already begun shipping its first Handlworks-equipped electric BMX bikes this week, with the company's proprietary High-Drive motorization system enabling bikes weighing as little as 38 pounds to reach speeds up to 40 mph with 3HP at the wheel. The partnership represents the type of innovation the ebike community is demanding, according to Duggan, who noted that riders are excited about the team-up and the enhanced performance capabilities it brings to the market.
