Chisos Boot Company Launches New Run of Wild Texas Alligator Cowboy Boots, Highlighting Luxury Heritage and Conservation
Chisos releases a limited batch of its Anniversary Edition cowboy boots made from wild-harvested Texas alligator, showcasing bench-made craftsmanship and a conservation model that finances wetland protection.

Chisos Boot Company has announced a new release of its Chisos Reserve: Anniversary Edition, a limited-run cowboy boot crafted from wild-harvested Texas alligator. Priced at $4,950, the boot represents the pinnacle of the company's lineup and underscores the growing niche for bench-made heritage footwear in the luxury market.
The cowboy boot market is divided into three tiers, according to Chisos. At the bottom are work boots mass-produced on automated lines, often overseas. The middle tier includes fast-fashion western labels that borrow similar techniques. At the top are bench-made heritage makers like Chisos, which build one pair at a time by hand using exceptional materials. The Anniversary Edition is the clearest example of this distinction, built from wild alligator hide that is dense and difficult to work with.
Each pair of the Anniversary Edition is mirror-cut from royal black alligator belly, sourced from East Texas waters. Some hides were personally hunted by founder Will Roman, and no two pairs are identical due to the unique patterns of each hide. Only a select group of master bootmakers in Guanajuato, Mexico, have the skill to meet Chisos's standards, limiting production to specific release windows.
The boot features a hand-tooled collar depicting the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park, alligator pulls, and a heel stamped with the shape of Texas. It includes a "Chisos Reserve" interior emblem. The wild harvest is part of a conservation model certified by the nonprofit Texan by Nature. Regulated harvest gives Texas landowners financial incentives to protect alligator breeding habitat. "Landowners are key to protecting alligator breeding habitat," Roman said. "Using the leather as a model for financing conservation is the reason these animals were able to flourish again - and the reason a boot like this can exist at all."
The Anniversary Edition sits atop Chisos's exotic range, which includes the Chisos No. 7 Lizard at $945 and other exotics at $1,295. The No. 7 Lizard pairs a black-lizard vamp with a cowhide shaft and is hand-lasted with Goodyear welt construction.
Construction details justify the price. Every Chisos boot uses vegetable-tanned leather for the heel counter, outsole, and midsole, with a stacked leather heel and leather rand. Soles are set with lemonwood pegs and brass nails, and a conformed steel shank provides arch support. The interior is fully lined in leather. The Goodyear welt construction allows for sole replacement, extending the boot's lifespan. A proprietary removable comfort insole includes gel pads for impact dissipation.
"We build the way bootmakers built a century ago, because that is what this caliber of boot demands," Roman said. "A Chisos boot is meant to be the last pair a man buys, and the first thing his son inherits."
All Chisos boots are made at a family-run workshop in Guanajuato, Mexico, where Roman learned the trade before founding the company in 2019. The company uses heritage leathers and sources exotics from respected suppliers or harvests them directly. A portion of every sale supports Texas land conservation.
