Comcast Expands Broadband Access in Rural Fresno County, Supports Local Education

Comcast is set to bring high-speed internet to over 160 previously unserved locations in Riverdale, California, through a collaborative infrastructure expansion project with the County of Fresno. The initiative, supported by a $1 million grant from the California Public Utilities Commission, represents a significant investment in rural digital connectivity.

The broadband expansion is part of Comcast's broader $4 billion technology infrastructure investment across California. Beyond infrastructure development, the company has demonstrated a commitment to local community development by donating laptop computers to all eighth-grade students in Caruthers and contributing $10,000 to the Caruthers Unified Education Fund.

Local officials have praised Comcast's comprehensive approach. Orin Hirschkorn, Superintendent of Caruthers Unified School District, highlighted the importance of not just providing technological infrastructure but also supporting educational resources. Buddy Mendes, County Board of Supervisors Chairman, emphasized the potential economic benefits, noting that the project could stimulate local economic growth and improve residents' quality of life.

The network promises multi-gigabit internet speeds with 99.9 percent reliability, positioning local residents and businesses to compete more effectively in an increasingly digital economy. Comcast's Internet Essentials program, which has connected over 2.2 million Californians since 2011, further underscores the company's commitment to bridging digital divides in underserved communities.
