Community IX Expands to Northern Virginia with New Internet Exchange
Community IX has launched its CIX-NoVA internet exchange in Northern Virginia, expanding interconnection capabilities in the world's largest data center market and offering free initial connections to drive regional network growth.

Community IX, operator of established internet exchanges in South Florida and Atlanta, has launched its newest internet exchange in Northern Virginia named CIX-NoVA. The expansion into the world's largest data center and connectivity market responds to sustained customer demand and represents a strategic growth move for the network operator.
The new exchange will initially operate through data centers in Ashburn and Reston, with additional locations under consideration. This marks Community IX's first presence in the Northern Virginia market, which has consistently emerged in customer conversations about potential expansion locations according to company leadership.
Randy Epstein, co-founder and Executive Director of Community IX, noted that since beginning operations in 2015, the organization has focused on providing cost-effective, community-driven service while experiencing tremendous growth in Florida and later in the Atlanta metro market. The Northern Virginia expansion continues this growth trajectory into a critical connectivity hub.
CIX-NoVA enables internet service providers, content providers, and enterprises to exchange IP traffic quickly, cost-effectively, and seamlessly across multiple sites in Northern Virginia. The exchange is currently open to participants with networks in Ashburn and Reston, with new 10G and 100G port connections being offered free for the first year with a two-year agreement. Additional information about specific locations and details is available at https://www.communityix.org.
The expansion carries significant implications for regional internet infrastructure. With more than 30Tbps of port capacity already installed across its existing exchange locations, Community IX brings substantial technical capability to the Northern Virginia market. The company has secured strong interest and committed participants to anchor the new exchange, indicating robust market reception.
This development enhances interconnection capabilities in a region that serves as a critical backbone for global internet traffic. The availability of 400G port speeds, though not included in the promotional offering, further positions the exchange to handle growing bandwidth demands. The initiative supports Community IX's mission to enhance the internet ecosystem through collaboration and cost-effective connectivity, serving hundreds of networks including ISPs, content providers, cloud services, and enterprises throughout the Southeastern United States.
