D1 Training Brings Athletic-Focused Fitness to Brighton Community

D1 Training, a fitness enrichment concept utilizing five core tenets of athletic-based training, will open a new location in Brighton at 8707 West Grand River Avenue on November 17. The facility employs sports-science backed training regimens led by certified trainers to help people of all ages achieve their sport and fitness goals. This expansion comes as part of D1 Training's national growth strategy through franchising, with more than 100 performance centers currently open and over 100 additional locations in various stages of development.

The Brighton location will be owned by local residents Carl and Kristin Rispoli, who join a roster of franchisees that includes professional athletes like Kylie Fitts and Jordan Gay. Additional D1 partners include NBA star Chris Paul and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow. Carl Rispoli, a commercial banker and local small business advocate, was drawn to the supportive structure of franchising, while Kristin—an associate professor at Michigan State University, psychologist, and lifelong fitness enthusiast—was inspired by D1's science-backed approach to training.

The Rispolis, who have two active children and deep community ties, recognized an opportunity to bring something new to Brighton's thriving sports culture. From coaching youth baseball to supporting Michigan's college and professional teams, the couple understands the community's athletic orientation. This expansion matters because it addresses a specific market need for structured, athletic-focused training in an area with strong sports participation across all age groups.

D1 Training offers four distinct age-based programs: Rookie for ages 7-11, Developmental for ages 12-14, Prep for ages 15-18, and D1 Adult. Each program follows the five athletic-based tenets: dynamic warm-up, performance, strength program, core and conditioning, and cool down. Beyond group workouts, the facility provides group, semi-private, and one-on-one training with world-class coaches. The comprehensive approach ensures that athletes of all backgrounds can access professional-level training methodologies.

Dan Murphy, the brand's Chief Operating Officer, expressed confidence in the Rispolis' ability to represent D1 Training's values in the Brighton community. The franchise model allows for consistent quality control while enabling local entrepreneurs to adapt to community needs. This strategic approach to expansion ensures that each location maintains the brand's standards while serving its specific market.

The opening reflects broader trends in the fitness industry toward specialized, results-driven experiences rather than traditional gym models. D1 Training's focus on athletic development across all age groups positions it uniquely in the competitive fitness market. Celebratory events include a grand opening on December 1 where community members can meet the facility's team, followed by an official launch party on December 6 offering prospective clients final opportunities to secure exclusive founding member rates. These events demonstrate the brand's commitment to community integration and relationship-building, essential components for successful franchise operations in local markets.
