Datavault AI and Burke Products have launched the VerifyU platform, leveraging blockchain and AI to authenticate military service records and combat identity fraud, which costs the U.S. over $100 million annually in misallocated veteran benefits.
Datavault AI Inc. (Nasdaq: DVLT) has expanded its VerifyU platform globally to meet rising demand for secure, real-time identity verification amid increasing scrutiny of fraudulent military service claims. The platform, developed in partnership with Burke Products under a sole-source U.S. government contract, uses a patented AI framework and blockchain technology to authenticate identities, service records, and credentials instantly. This initiative aims to mint experiential Valor tokens, connecting service members to benefits, promotions, and discounts offered by private sector businesses while ensuring the integrity of military honors.
The economic and societal impacts of stolen valor are significant. Fraudulent claims drain millions annually from veteran benefits programs, with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs estimating over $100 million in improper payments related to misrepresented service in recent years. This fraud affects disability compensation, GI Bill education benefits, and hiring preferences, reducing resources for legitimate veterans. Globally, military impersonation contributes to identity theft losses exceeding $50 billion annually, with costs projected to reach $8 trillion by 2027, according to the World Economic Forum.
Roger Stone, a political consultant who has advised U.S. presidents on national security and veteran affairs, emphasized the importance of this technology. He stated, "Preventing stolen valor is imperative, and Datavault AI's campaign to use blockchain technology to verify military records is a big step in actualizing the intent of the Stolen Valor Act." Stone referenced high-profile cases, such as the distorted service record of Air Force veteran RJ Majewski, which could be prevented with VerifyU.
Frank Mir, two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion and senior adviser to Arsenal Government and Public Affairs Group, highlighted the bipartisan support needed for this initiative.
