Divine Mercy University Launches Bishop Loverde Scholarship Fund to Support Religious Vocations
Divine Mercy University is establishing a scholarship program honoring Bishop Paul S. Loverde to support seminary students and religious vocations, with a fundraising goal of $500,000 by June 2026.

Divine Mercy University (DMU) has announced the creation of the Bishop Loverde Scholarship Fund, a new initiative designed to support priests, religious students, and vocational education. The scholarship program aims to honor Bishop Paul S. Loverde, who served as the Diocese of Arlington's third bishop from 1999 to 2016 and has been a longstanding board member of the university.
The scholarship fund will provide financial support for seminarians and religious students who commit to serving their home dioceses and communities after graduation. Specifically, the program will prioritize students from the Diocese of Arlington and those dedicated to religious service nationwide.
DMU seeks to raise at least $500,000 by June 30th, 2026, to establish and sustain the scholarship program. The initiative underscores the university's commitment to supporting religious vocations and addressing mental health needs within religious communities.
Bishop Loverde, appointed by St. John Paul II, was recognized by current Arlington Diocese Bishop Michael F. Burbidge as a passionate advocate for human life, Catholic education, and religious vocations. His 25-year involvement with the Institute for the Psychological Sciences, now Divine Mercy University, highlights his commitment to mental health and psychological education.
The scholarship fund represents a strategic investment in developing compassionate, well-trained religious professionals who can serve their communities with expertise and dedication.
