DPR Construction Advances Memorial Healthcare's Miramar Emergency Department Project

DPR Construction's South Florida Business Unit has achieved the topping out milestone for Memorial Healthcare System's new freestanding emergency department in Miramar, Florida. The 16,800-square-foot facility, located at Miramar Parkway and Red Road, represents a significant expansion of emergency healthcare services for Broward County's growing community.

The new emergency department will feature 13 examination rooms, eight fast track rooms, a pediatric treatment area, a trauma resuscitation room, advanced imaging capabilities including CT and X-ray, and on-site laboratory services. Memorial Hospital Pembroke CEO Felicia Turnley emphasized the facility's importance, noting that "with the population projected to increase by 10% by 2029, this new FSED will offer convenient access to care and will help reduce wait times." The Miramar area currently accounts for 27% of Memorial's emergency room volume.

Luke Stocking, DPR Construction's Senior Project Manager, confirmed that the topping out process will be completed by the end of August. Stocking credited local authorities for their cooperation, stating that "working with the City of Miramar as well as other local authorities has been a pleasure. Because this site had never been developed before, we've had to work with more entities. However, all have been extremely responsive, enabling our team to meet expectations."

The project is part of Memorial Healthcare System's broader expansion strategy, with DPR also constructing another freestanding emergency department in Pembroke Pines on Douglas Road, scheduled to open concurrently in 2026. DPR addressed ongoing labor challenges by utilizing their in-house self-perform team for certain project scopes, creating greater efficiencies in the construction process.

DPR Construction, celebrating its 20th anniversary in South Florida, employs more than 100 local professionals and manages approximately $260 million in construction projects annually across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. The company specializes in technically complex projects for healthcare, advanced technology, and other specialized markets. The project demonstrates how strategic healthcare infrastructure development can address population growth challenges while improving access to critical medical services.
