Feeding South Florida Launches Hunger Action Month to Combat Food Insecurity

Feeding South Florida®, the premier hunger-relief organization in Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe counties, is spearheading Hunger Action Month this September. The initiative, under the theme 'Power in Every Action,' aims to mobilize the community against hunger, highlighting the plight of over 1.2 million food-insecure individuals in South Florida. Factors such as inflation, supply chain disruptions, and rising living costs have exacerbated the situation, leaving one in nine individuals uncertain about their next meal.

The campaign encourages participation through activities like online auctions, purchasing 'Hunger Heroes' t-shirts, and taking advantage of the Hunger Action Match, where donations up to $25,000 will be matched. Notably, every dollar donated can provide approximately four meals to those in need. The month features events such as Hunger Action Day on Sept. 9, corporate volunteer opportunities on Sept. 12, and the Outrun Hunger 5K in Palm Beach County on Sept. 20. Community members are also urged to volunteer at warehouses or the Community Kitchen in Boynton Beach, among other activities.

Paco Vélez, president and CEO of Feeding South Florida, emphasized the collective effort's impact in raising awareness and funds to combat hunger. The initiative not only seeks to provide immediate food assistance but also advocates for long-term solutions to hunger and poverty.
