Lieutenant Dan, the Emerging Hero and Shelter category finalist from New Richmond, Ohio, demonstrates remarkable resilience despite being born with severe limb deformities that required the amputation of both hind legs and his tail. His joyful spirit during activities like hiking and swimming inspires people of all abilities to embrace their differences, while he also helps foster pets with special needs gain confidence.
Harrison represents the Law Enforcement and First Responder category as Caldwell County's first electronics scent detection K-9 and one of only a few certified dogs of his kind in North Carolina. His specialized training allows him to locate hidden electronic devices critical to criminal investigations, particularly in Internet Crimes Against Children cases. Beyond his investigative work, Harrison serves as a community ambassador, bringing joy to children at events and strengthening police-community relations.
K9 Ultra from Matawan, New Jersey, stands as the Military category finalist, serving as a Military Working Dog who demonstrates fierce reliability in detection work while maintaining a playful personality off duty.
