Free 2025 Empowering Caregivers Conference to Support Broward County Dementia Caregivers

The Area Agency on Aging of Broward County, in partnership with the Florida Department of Elder Affairs and the Broward County Dementia Care & Cure Initiative Task Force, will host the 2025 Empowering Caregivers Conference on Wednesday, November 19 at the Illuminate Event Venue in Sunrise. This free one-day event represents a significant community investment in supporting the growing population of caregivers, particularly those assisting individuals with Alzheimer's and dementia-related diseases, who often face substantial emotional and financial challenges without adequate support systems.

The conference runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m., offering complimentary lunch, goodie bags, and access to expert-led sessions, community resources, and networking opportunities with elder care professionals. Charlotte Mather-Taylor, CEO of the Area Agency on Aging of Broward County, emphasized the conference's importance, stating, "This conference will provide valuable information and resources to community members caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's and dementia-related diseases. Because their role is vital we want to empower and uplift caregivers."

The timing of this event is particularly crucial as Florida's aging population continues to grow, placing increased demands on both family and professional caregivers. The conference will feature speakers from the Dementia Care & Cure Initiative Task Force, including representatives from the Alzheimer's Association, Memorial Healthcare System and other local organizations, addressing the complex challenges faced by those caring for individuals with cognitive decline. Sponsors include FP&L, Independent Living Systems, United Homecare, ElliQ, Florida Pace Centers at Miami Jewish Health and Memorial Healthcare System, demonstrating broad community support for caregiver initiatives.

Registration is now open at https://www.adrcbroward.org, with additional information available at https://www.adrcbroward.org/caregiver-empowerment-conference. The conference's comprehensive approach to caregiver support comes at a critical time when many families struggle to navigate the complex landscape of dementia care while managing their own wellbeing. By providing free access to professional resources and peer support networks, the event aims to reduce caregiver burnout and improve quality of care for Broward County's older adult population, which numbers over 510,632 year-round residents according to the organizing agency.
