Gilat Secures $25 Million Contract to Expand High-Speed Internet Access in Peru's Cusco Region
Gilat Satellite Networks has been awarded an additional $25 million to modernize broadband infrastructure in rural Peru, enhancing digital inclusion for public institutions and communities.

Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. has secured a $25 million agreement with Peru's national telecommunications program Pronatel to modernize broadband infrastructure in the Cusco region. The contract expansion represents a significant investment in digital inclusion for remote areas, with implementation scheduled over the next 12 months and services to be delivered for five years.
The upgraded network will provide high-speed internet of 200 Mbps to nearly 208 public institutions including schools, health centers, and police stations, along with 69 public free WiFi hotspots. This initiative addresses critical connectivity gaps in rural communities, enabling improved access to education, healthcare, and public safety services while establishing infrastructure for future bandwidth expansion.
Arieh Rohrstock, Corporate Senior Vice President and President of Gilat Peru, emphasized the company's capability to execute large-scale connectivity projects, stating their partnership with Pronatel focuses on expanding digital inclusion through high-speed infrastructure that strengthens public services in Peru's most remote communities. The project builds upon Gilat's existing relationship with the Peruvian government and demonstrates the growing importance of satellite technology in bridging digital divides.
The modernization effort in Cusco reflects broader trends in telecommunications infrastructure development, where public-private partnerships are increasingly crucial for connecting underserved regions.
