Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida Recognize 74 Young Leaders for Community Impact Projects
Seventy-four Girl Scouts earned the prestigious Silver Award through projects addressing critical community needs, demonstrating how youth leadership can drive meaningful social change across Southeast Florida.

The Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida celebrated 74 young changemakers who earned the organization's prestigious Silver Award during the 7th Annual Silver Award Showcase. The Silver Award represents the highest honor achievable by Girl Scout Cadettes in grades six through eight, requiring participants to identify local issues, develop sustainable solutions, and implement meaningful community changes through dedicated effort and creativity.
These young leaders collectively contributed 4,100 service hours through 35 distinct projects conducted in partnership with dozens of nonprofit organizations, schools, animal rescues, beaches, and municipalities. Their work addressed a wide spectrum of community challenges including mental health awareness, self-defense education, food insecurity, environmental sustainability, care for aging populations, and veteran recognition programs. The scale and diversity of these initiatives reflect the organization's commitment to developing leadership skills while addressing pressing social needs.
Lisa Johnson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida, emphasized the significance of these achievements, stating that these compassionate young leaders tackled complex issues with courage, determination and creativity that can spark real change. Their projects demonstrate that girls are not waiting for the future but are actively creating it through their community engagement.
The recognition of these Silver Award recipients comes amid broader efforts by the organization to address challenges facing Florida girls. In 2024, Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida unveiled the State of the Florida Girl Report, a comprehensive assessment of the unique circumstances impacting girls across the state. This research, available at https://www.gssef.org, informs the organization's programming designed to support girls at every stage of their development journey.
Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida serves 6,100 girls and engages 3,600 volunteers across Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties. The organization provides tailored programs that create safe, supportive environments where girls can develop leadership skills while addressing community needs. Through these experiences, girls from kindergarten through 12th grade gain the confidence and capabilities needed to become compassionate leaders who inspire lasting change.
The Silver Award projects not only benefit local communities but also provide valuable leadership development opportunities for the participants. By identifying real-world problems and implementing practical solutions, these young women develop critical thinking, project management, and community engagement skills that will serve them throughout their lives. The organization's approach demonstrates how structured youth development programs can simultaneously address immediate community needs while building the next generation of leaders.
