The city of Glen Rose has officially declared October 5-11 as ITLA Texas Longhorn Week, celebrating the town's ranching heritage and Texas Longhorn cattle. The proclamation by the Mayor and City Council recognizes Glen Rose's historic roots and ongoing tradition in Texas cattle ranching while hosting the ITLA Texas Longhorn Championship Show at The Expo from October 7-11.

Tex Toler, Director at Glen Rose Convention & Visitor Bureau, stated that this celebration represents the community looking at both heritage and future while attracting people from across the country to visit Glen Rose, Texas. The week-long festivities include multiple community events designed to showcase Texas culture and Longhorn traditions.

The celebration features several key events throughout the week. On Wednesday, October 8, a Longhorn cattle drive will proceed through the town square at 6 p.m., followed by a free showing of Conagher at the Palace Theatre. Friday, October 10 brings a live concert by legendary band Asleep at the Wheel at the Texas Amphitheatre.

Saturday, October 11 offers Fun on the Square with vendors, western-themed booths, and activities including stick horse rodeos and chili tastings by local merchants. Live music by BK and the Strays will perform on the courthouse steps from 12 to 1:30 p.m., while visitors can get their picture taken with a Longhorn on the square. The Palace Theatre will also host free viewing of the UT vs. OU game on the big screen.

The ITLA Texas Longhorn Championship, organized by the International Texas Longhorn Association, represents a premier event featuring top Longhorn cattle competing for championship titles. The show draws breeders from across the nation to Glen Rose, further establishing the town's significance in Texas Longhorn preservation and promotion.
