Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation (NASDAQ: GLDD) has taken delivery of the Amelia Island, its newest Jones Act-compliant hopper dredge, from Conrad Shipyard in Louisiana. The vessel, measuring 346 feet long with 16,500 total horsepower, is equipped with advanced automation, low-emission Tier IV engines, and a 6,330-cubic-yard hopper capacity, enabling efficient dredging in shallow and narrow U.S. waterways.

CEO Lasse Petterson stated that the addition of Amelia Island completes the company's newbuild program, creating the largest and most advanced hopper fleet in the nation. The vessel is immediately set to begin projects scheduled through 2026, marking a significant enhancement to the company's operational capabilities. This development is crucial for maintaining and improving U.S. maritime infrastructure, particularly in areas requiring frequent dredging to support commercial shipping and port operations.

The acquisition underscores Great Lakes Dredge & Dock's commitment to modernizing its fleet with environmentally friendly technology, as evidenced by the Tier IV engines that reduce emissions. The company's focus on advanced automation also aims to increase efficiency and safety in dredging operations, which are vital for ensuring navigable waterways and supporting economic activities reliant on maritime transport.
