HKSTP Strengthens Asia-Europe Innovation Bridge at VivaTech 2026

Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) has wrapped up its delegation to Viva Technology 2026 in Paris, signing multiple memorandums of understanding (MOUs) that link Asian and European innovation ecosystems. The event, held June 17-20, celebrated its 10th anniversary as a global stage for startups, and HKSTP used the platform to deepen cross-continental collaboration.

Key partnerships include Algreen, a microalgae expert, teaming up with South Korean climate tech company ForNatures to advance carbon capture management. Robotics firm Robocore partnered with Slovenian cognitive software startup ARCHTYP and closed a deal with French advertising giant JCDecaux to supply 1,000 robots for European markets. LeafIoT's green asset management solutions attracted interest from European preservation professionals, including France's CIRAD, Spain's Gremi de Jardineria de Catalunya, and Professor Andrea Galli from Politecnico di Milano.

Compared to 2025, HKSTP's delegation achieved over 50% growth in opportunities, generating more than 200 potential business leads worth HK$70 million. This reflects HKSTP's role as an orchestrator of Asia's innovation and technology ecosystem, providing startups with pathways into European markets while offering European innovators access to Asia via Hong Kong's strategic position in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the world's No.1 innovation cluster according to the World Intellectual Property Organisation Innovation Index.

Terry Wong, CEO of HKSTP, emphasized the importance of the France-EU connection: "France and the EU represent critical opportunities for Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland I&T ventures to scale globally. VivaTech provides a world-class platform for collaboration, co-creation, and knowledge exchange." He highlighted that strong ties with French partners underscore Hong Kong's role as a global launchpad for innovation.

A significant development is the expansion of HKSTP's partnership with Bouygues Construction, a global leader in sustainable construction headquartered in France. Through its Hong Kong arm, Dragages Hong Kong, Bouygues has operated in the region for 70 years, contributing to iconic infrastructure projects. HKSTP is the first and only institution in Hong Kong to connect tech ventures directly into Bouygues Construction's "Scale One" programme, offering a fast track to prototyping and commercialisation. This initiative now extends beyond Asia, giving selected Hong Kong startups opportunities to showcase solutions at Bouygues' headquarters in France and conduct pilot trials across European operations.

The Hong Kong Tech Pavilion, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) with support from HKSTP, showcased 24 market-ready solutions in AI, green tech, and health tech, marking a milestone in bridging Hong Kong and Europe's innovation hub.
