HKTDC Launches 60th Anniversary Celebrations with Mobile Design Gallery Tour Across Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) today launched its 60th anniversary celebrations with a mobile campaign called “Design Gallery on the Move,” bringing original Hong Kong brands and design products to 16 locations across the city from 29 May to 18 June. The initiative underscores the HKTDC’s long-standing commitment to promoting local creativity and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in expanding globally.

The campaign features 36 Hong Kong brands and over 60 products across six thematic zones, including DG Delights, DG Discover, and DG Green. The mobile exhibition will tour communities, enabling residents and visitors to discover the stories behind local brands. Products can also be purchased at Design Gallery’s physical stores or online, with discount coupons available during the promotion period.

HKTDC Chairman Professor Frederick Ma highlighted the significance of the initiative, recalling the council’s early efforts to “go global.” “As early as 1967, we travelled to Africa to promote Hong Kong products, converting a cargo truck into a mobile exhibition,” he said. “This flexible, resilient and can-do attitude embodies the Lion Rock spirit of Hong Kong.” The mobile campaign revives that pioneering approach by bringing brands directly to local communities.

The HKTDC’s 60th anniversary also includes a series of themed events, such as a “Catch the 60th Anniversary-themed Tram,” the “Next 60 Forum,” a cocktail reception, a giveaway during the Hong Kong Book Fair, a community art co-creation event, and an exhibition. These activities span exhibitions, community engagement, and industry events, reinforcing the council’s role in supporting Hong Kong enterprises.

Design Gallery, the HKTDC’s flagship retail platform established in 1991, promotes around 400 Hong Kong brands annually through its physical stores at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and Hong Kong International Airport, as well as its online store launched in 2021. It also operates 72 sales points across 27 mainland Chinese cities, including over 30 in the Greater Bay Area, and expanded into ASEAN markets last year via cross-border e-commerce.

To celebrate the anniversary, Design Gallery is offering a “60 items at 40% off” campaign at its Wan Chai store from May to July, featuring 20 selected items each month in categories such as gifts, homeware, and fashion accessories. The HKTDC’s 60th anniversary initiatives highlight the council’s enduring mission to promote Hong Kong as a global business hub and support SMEs in reaching international markets.
