HWPL World Peace Summit Demonstrates Global Progress on Conflict Prevention Framework and Peace Education

The 11th HWPL World Peace Summit convened 800 global leaders in Cheongju, South Korea, demonstrating substantial progress in international peacebuilding efforts across multiple continents. The summit highlighted three major achievements that signal growing global momentum for conflict prevention and peace education initiatives.

In the realm of international law, HWPL's proposed legal framework, the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), has gained significant traction with the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (PARLATINO) and 16 other parliamentary and governmental bodies adopting resolutions supporting the declaration. This represents a critical step toward establishing international legal mechanisms for conflict prevention.

Peace education initiatives are being systematically integrated into national educational systems. Zambia's Ministry of Education has implemented HWPL's peace program in all schools in its capital, Lusaka, with plans for nationwide expansion. Mongolia has also formally integrated the peace education curriculum into its educational framework, creating structural foundations for long-term peacebuilding.

The summit marked the launch of the Solidarity of Religions' Peace Committee (SRPC), building on the HWPL International Religious Peace Academy program that has been operational since 2023. This interfaith learning program has received formal recognition in several countries as a platform for religious leaders and citizens to engage in peace-centered dialogue across religious divides.

HWPL Chairman Lee Man-hee emphasized the urgency of global cooperation, stating that establishing peace in our time is essential to avoid burdening future generations with conflict. The organization's global membership has grown rapidly, now exceeding 580,000 participants worldwide. Following the main summit, satellite events will continue in 78 cities through October, with over 15,000 leaders expected to participate in further peacebuilding strategy discussions.
