International Healthcare Week Returns to Hong Kong, Reinforcing City's Role as MedTech and Investment Hub

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) announced today that the fifth edition of International Healthcare Week will take place from 11 to 31 May, headlined by two flagship events: the sixth Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) and the 17th Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair. The events, running concurrently at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, are designed to provide a comprehensive business platform covering the entire medical and healthcare industry chain, from technology R&D and investment matching to medical equipment manufacturing and services.

The ASGH, jointly organized by the HKSAR government and the HKTDC, will be held on 11-12 May under the theme "Fuelling Healthcare Breakthroughs." It will feature a prestigious speaker lineup including 2013 Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry Prof Michael Levitt, who will share his insights on the transformative impact of technology on healthcare. The opening session will include remarks by HKTDC Chairman Prof Frederick S Ma, Chief Executive John Lee, and Prof Zeng Yixin, Vice Minister of the National Health Commission of China.

The Medical Fair, organized by the HKTDC and co-organized by the Hong Kong MedTech Association, will run from 11 to 13 May, showcasing some 300 exhibitors from 10 countries and regions. This year's fair focuses on three key categories: MedTech, GeronTech, and Preventive Healthcare, with a notable doubling of exhibitors offering smart ageing products and green solutions. Highlights include a smart health wearable watch integrating Chinese and Western medicine, an augmented reality surgical platform for orthopaedic surgeons, and a world-first smart knee brace with AI capabilities.

Sophia Chong, Executive Director of the HKTDC, said: "The medical and healthcare landscape is undergoing a profound and rapid transformation. Hong Kong, by leveraging its preeminence as an international financial centre, its world-class research ecosystem and its unique positioning bridging the Chinese Mainland and the world, serves as an ideal platform for scientific excellence, strategic investment and financing, and international trade for medical and healthcare innovation."

The events align closely with China's National 15th Five-Year Plan, which prioritizes health development. The summit will feature thematic sessions addressing market trends and the Plan, including "The Next Frontier in China's Healthcare Industry" and "Driving Chinese Medicine Development Through Standardisation and Innovation." Other sessions will explore AI-powered healthcare, the silver economy, and biopharmaceutical advancements.

Beyond the main events, International Healthcare Week will encompass 17 healthcare-related conferences, seminars, and networking activities throughout May, aiming to promote innovation and investment exchange in the Asian healthcare industry. The ASGH will also host the InnoHealth Showcase with around 180 companies from 11 countries, a Project Pitching session for startups, and the ASGH Deal-making platform for one-on-one meetings.

The Medical Fair will adopt an "EXHIBITION+" hybrid model, with the physical fair at the HKCEC from 11-13 May and online engagement via the "Click2Match" platform from 4 May to 20 May. More than 50 themed forums and seminars will provide industry insights on topics such as AI in mental health innovation and gerontechnology demand.

With these events, Hong Kong reinforces its role as a superconnector and super value-add in the global healthcare landscape, bridging the Chinese Mainland and international markets.
