LION Smart Earns TOP 100 Seal for Innovation in Energy Storage Solutions
LION Smart has been awarded the TOP 100 Seal 2026, recognizing it as one of Germany's most innovative mid-sized companies for its work in intelligent energy storage and battery systems, highlighting the importance of organizational innovation in advancing the energy transition.
LION Smart, a company of the LION E-Mobility Group, has been awarded the TOP 100 Seal 2026, placing it among Germany's most innovative mid-sized businesses. The award ceremony will take place during the German SME Summit on June 26 in Heidelberg, where former Federal President of Germany Christian Wulff, who serves as mentor to the TOP 100 innovation competition, will personally congratulate the company.
The selection process for the TOP 100 Seal involves a rigorous scientific assessment conducted by innovation researcher Professor Nikolaus Franke and his team on behalf of compamedia, the organizer of the competition. Companies are evaluated across five categories: innovation-oriented top management, innovation climate, innovation processes and organization, external orientation/open innovation, and innovation success. These categories encompass more than 100 assessment criteria, with participants completing an online questionnaire in advance. "At TOP 100, we analyse thoroughly and comprehensively how innovation-driven the applicants are. Those that are exceptionally well positioned receive confirmation in the form of the TOP 100 Seal," says Prof. Nikolaus Franke.
LION Smart, which operates in the field of intelligent energy storage and battery solutions, impressed in the selection process and has been entitled to carry the TOP 100 Seal since February 1. The company is known for modular, scalable storage systems for industrial, grid, and mobility applications, pursuing a consistently innovation-driven approach from concept to market launch. "For us, innovation is not a one-off project, but a permanent part of our day-to-day work and our corporate culture," says Dr. Joachim Damasky, Managing Partner of LION Smart. "The TOP 100 award confirms that we are setting the right course not only technologically, but also organisationally and strategically."
A key success factor for LION Smart is the close integration of research, development, and customer requirements, with new solutions developed with real-world applications and future market needs in mind. The company views the TOP 100 Seal as recognition of its achievements and an incentive to further shape the energy transition with innovative storage solutions. The seal is awarded in three size categories to ensure equal opportunities: up to 50 employees, 51 to 200 employees, and more than 200 employees. In the current 33rd round, 356 mid-sized companies applied, with 282 successful, and a maximum of 100 recognized per category. The TOP 100 competition, organized by compamedia since 1993, awards the seal for outstanding innovative strength and above-average innovation success. Scientific direction has been led by Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke since 2002, with project partners including the Fraunhofer Society for the Advancement of Applied Research and the SME association BVMW.
