New AI Platform Aims to Reduce Healthcare's $12.7B Workplace Violence Crisis
OPTICS for Healthcare introduces an AI-driven platform designed to assess and mitigate workplace violence in healthcare settings, addressing a significant financial and safety crisis.

The healthcare industry is facing a critical challenge with workplace violence, costing the U.S. healthcare system an estimated $12.7 billion annually. In response, OPTICS for Healthcare has launched a pioneering AI-driven platform aimed at assessing and mitigating these risks. This innovative solution comes at a time when healthcare workers are experiencing workplace violence at a rate five times higher than those in private industry, with over 2,000 nurses and nursing assistants facing physical violence daily.
David Brake, Co-founder and CEO of OPTICS for Healthcare, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, "Healthcare workers dedicate their lives to healing others, yet they face unprecedented safety challenges that compromise both their wellbeing and patient care." The OPTICS platform is designed to provide healthcare organizations with systematic, evidence-based tools to enhance safety and ensure regulatory compliance.
The platform integrates artificial intelligence with human oversight across five key components: a comprehensive workplace assessment, a GAP analysis report, a collaborative workflow management system, a critical content library with real-time regulatory updates, and a management dashboard for analytics. These features aim to not only improve staff safety but also reduce liability exposure and decrease turnover rates, which can cost up to $82,000 per registered nurse.
Pilot programs for the OPTICS platform are set to begin this fall, focusing on client implementation and user experience. Kim Urbanek, OPTICS Co-founder and Chief of Innovation & Practice, highlighted the platform's potential impact, saying, "We're excited to be able to impact the healthcare industry in such a meaningful way." The nationwide release is targeted for early 2026, with the platform designed to serve a wide range of healthcare facilities across the U.S.
