Nonprofit Launches 5th Annual Campaign to Spotlight Pregnancy and Postpartum Psychosis
Cherished Mom's Pregnancy & Postpartum Psychosis Awareness Day aims to raise critical understanding about a severe maternal mental health condition that affects 1-2 out of every 1,000 deliveries, highlighting potential risks and the importance of early intervention.

Cherished Mom, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to maternal mental health, will host its 5th Annual Pregnancy & Postpartum Psychosis (PPP) Awareness Day on May 2, 2025, focusing on a critical yet often overlooked perinatal mental health challenge.
Postpartum psychosis is a serious psychiatric condition affecting 1 to 2 mothers per 1,000 deliveries, characterized by sudden onset of hallucinations, delusions, confusion, and rapid mood swings. The disorder carries significant risks, with an estimated 5% suicide rate and 4% infanticide rate, underscoring the urgent need for awareness and intervention.
Kristina Dulaney, RN and founder of Cherished Mom, emphasized the human impact behind these statistics, noting that increased awareness, education, and advocacy can prevent unnecessary tragedies and support affected mothers.
The organization's campaign seeks to break the stigma surrounding PPP and provide critical resources for early diagnosis and treatment. By encouraging participation from individuals, healthcare providers, and community partners, Cherished Mom aims to amplify understanding of this serious maternal mental health condition.
Early identification and appropriate medical intervention can lead to recovery, making public awareness a crucial step in supporting maternal mental health and protecting both mothers and infants.
