Oak Crest’s Performing Arts Center Renovation Enhances Community Life

The performing arts center at Oak Crest, an Erickson Senior Living community in Parkville, Md., has undergone a comprehensive renovation, introducing new carpet, seating, lighting, and sound systems. This upgrade has revitalized the 225-seat venue, making it a hub for concerts, theatrical performances, and community gatherings.

Joe Carlson, coordinator for the community’s in-house TV station, highlights the center's role in fostering connections among residents through shared interests in the arts. The facility now hosts a variety of events, from live performances to improv acting classes offered in collaboration with the Community College of Baltimore County.

John Gregory, a resident and former math teacher, shares his involvement with the Light and Sound Committee, emphasizing the technical advancements that have expanded the center's capabilities. With 16 state-of-the-art lights, the team can now enhance performances with dynamic lighting effects, elevating the audience's experience.

Keith Derrickson, a retired music teacher and pianist, appreciates the upgraded facilities for his performances and the annual Follies show, a resident-led variety show that thrives on humor and community participation. The renovations have not only improved the quality of performances but also boosted resident morale and pride in their community.

The transformation of the performing arts center is part of a broader multimillion-dollar investment by Erickson Senior Living to upgrade amenities across its communities. These enhancements reflect the company's commitment to supporting a vibrant and engaging lifestyle for seniors, encouraging artistic expression and social interaction.
