Olympus Announces Major Restructuring Strategy to Transform Endoscopy Care Through AI and Robotics

Olympus Corporation unveiled a comprehensive strategy to transform endoscopy-enabled care through innovation and operational excellence. The global MedTech company aims to accelerate cutting-edge technologies and reinforce its leadership position while improving outcomes for patients worldwide. The announcement represents a significant shift toward intelligent, integrated care systems that move beyond traditional hardware solutions.

Bob White, Representative Executive Officer, President and Chief Executive Officer at Olympus, described the strategy as a pivotal moment for the company. We are building on our industry-leading installed base of endoscopy systems to move beyond hardware toward a future defined by intelligent, integrated care, White stated. The company plans to simplify its organizational structure to enhance agility while making substantial investments in next-generation medical technology.

The strategic vision centers on creating a future where advanced, minimally invasive endoscopy powered by artificial intelligence, robotics, and connected digital ecosystems enables earlier disease detection, improves clinical outcomes, enhances patient safety, and ensures continuity of care. With the world's largest installed base of endoscopy systems, Olympus believes it is uniquely positioned to scale innovation globally and redefine standards in endoscopy-enabled care.

The transformation strategy rests on three core pillars: Innovation-driven Growth, Simplicity, and Accountability. The Innovation-driven Growth component will focus on expanding leadership in AI-powered endoscopy, robotics and cloud-connected solutions. The operational accelerators of Simplicity and Accountability will streamline processes, empower teams, and drive sustainable performance across the organization.

As part of the strategic implementation, Olympus will undergo a global organizational transformation that includes approximately 24 billion yen in run rate savings and a net reduction of roughly 2,000 positions in the global workforce. The optimization plan, scheduled for implementation between fiscal years 2026 and 2027, will simplify organizational layers and expand managerial spans of control to foster greater agility and clearer accountability throughout the company.

The integrated growth and transformation plan includes a three-year financial strategy targeting 5% year-on-year revenue growth by fiscal year 2029. The company also aims for annual 100 basis-point growth beginning in fiscal year 2026, more than 10% EPS compound annual growth rate, and continuous improvement in free cash flow. Capital deployment will support innovation initiatives, dividends, share buybacks, and strategic mergers and acquisitions.

Concurrent with the strategic announcement, Olympus revealed several leadership transitions. Keith Boettiger, currently Corporate Officer and Co-head of the Gastrointestinal Solutions Division, will be appointed Executive Officer and Gastrointestinal Solutions Division Head effective April 1, 2026. He will succeed Frank Drewalowski, who will transition to Senior Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer. Additionally, Yasuo Takeuchi will step down as Representative Executive Officer, Executive Chairperson and ESG Officer at the end of March 2026, concluding over four decades of service with the company.
