Peralta Colleges Foundation Marks 50 Years with Annual Golf Tournament to Support Student Success
The Peralta Colleges Foundation celebrates its 50th anniversary by hosting the 2025 'Swing For Student Success' golf tournament to raise funds for scholarships and financial aid, supporting students' academic and career aspirations across four community colleges.

The Peralta Colleges Foundation, which supports students at Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, and Merritt College, is commemorating five decades of service with its 2025 Dr. William 'Bill' Riley 'Swing For Student Success' Golf Tournament. Established in 1971, the foundation has consistently provided scholarships and financial assistance to help students achieve their academic and professional goals.
Dr. William 'Bill' Riley, a board member, emphasized the tournament's role in addressing critical needs. 'Hosting this year's golf tournament enables the foundation to support the intellectual, cultural and educational needs of our students, faculty, and staff throughout the Peralta Colleges. Funds raised at the tournament help elevate students from poverty, train the unemployed and underemployed, and prepare students to successfully transition to four-year universities,' he stated.
Scheduled for Monday, September 8, 2025, at Sequoyah Country Club in Oakland, the event offers businesses and individuals a chance to contribute to student success. Sponsorships play a vital role in transforming lives by empowering students to reach their full potential. The foundation encourages community involvement to sustain its mission, with details available on the Peralta Colleges Foundation website.
This initiative underscores the ongoing importance of private support in public education, particularly for community colleges that serve diverse and often underserved populations. By funding scholarships and training programs, the foundation helps bridge economic gaps and fosters educational advancement, reinforcing the value of community engagement in shaping future workforce readiness and social mobility.
