Pinehurst School Introduces Innovative Safety Platform to Enhance Emergency Response
Pinehurst's Sandhills Classical Christian School is set to debut Active Defender's real-time safety platform, featuring wearable panic buttons for instant emergency communication, marking a significant advancement in school safety measures.

Sandhills Classical Christian School in Pinehurst is pioneering the use of Active Defender's cutting-edge safety platform, integrating wearable panic buttons that offer instant connections to emergency response systems. This initiative, spearheaded by local startup founder and retired Department of Defense software engineer Jim Boyte, aims to revolutionize school safety by enabling educators and staff to act swiftly in threatening situations.
The platform, designed to facilitate mission-critical communication with a single touch, will be showcased at the School Leadership Safety Summit on June 16. Attendees will witness a live demonstration of the system, underscoring its potential to significantly reduce response times during emergencies. Active Defender's technology, recently honored with an NC IDEA SEED Grant, is already in use across several schools in North and South Carolina, with plans for expansion throughout the Southeast.
Jim Boyte, Founder and CEO of Active Defender, emphasized the importance of rapid response in school emergencies, stating, 'Every second counts in a school emergency. We built Active Defender to give those seconds back to teachers — the people standing between danger and our kids.' The summit will also feature keynote speakers Rob DePriest and Bobby Brasher, who will discuss the platform's role in fostering safer learning environments through enhanced communication and quicker emergency responses.
This development represents a critical step forward in school safety, offering a practical solution to the challenges of emergency preparedness and response. By equipping educators with the tools to communicate instantly in crisis situations, Active Defender's platform has the potential to save lives and set a new standard for school safety protocols nationwide.
