Quantica Infrastructure Unveils Big Sky Digital Infrastructure to Pioneer Montana's Digital Economy
Quantica Infrastructure launches Big Sky Digital Infrastructure, a 5,000-acre energy and digital infrastructure campus in Montana, aiming to blend renewable energy with digital economy needs.

Quantica Infrastructure, LLC has announced the launch of Big Sky Digital Infrastructure LLC (BSDI), a pioneering 5,000-acre energy and digital infrastructure campus located outside Billings, Montana. This ambitious project, set to begin construction in 2026, is designed to initially provide 500 MW of new renewable power and battery energy storage, with the potential to expand to 1 GW. The initiative represents a significant step forward in integrating Montana's rich natural resources with the demands of the digital economy.
Damon Obie, a co-founder of Big Sky Digital Infrastructure and a Montana native, emphasized the project's focus on leveraging the state's historical strengths to foster future growth. Quantica Infrastructure aims to create a seamless blend of traditional industries and digital advancements, ensuring Montana's communities thrive in the digital age while preserving their values and heritage.
John Chesser, another co-founder, highlighted the project's potential to generate employment and infrastructure investments, underscoring the importance of a well-planned digital economy. The Big Sky Campus is poised to meet the escalating demand for hyperscale, AI, and cloud computing services by offering an integrated solution that includes land, renewable energy, and high-speed fiber connectivity.
Charlie Baker, BSDI’s Chief Financial Officer, with over two decades of experience in the Montana power industry, shared his enthusiasm for combining traditional grid power with renewable and battery energy storage. This approach not only aims to meet customer sustainability and reliability goals but also promises to enhance in-state telecommunications, benefiting schools, healthcare, and community services.
The project anticipates connecting the site to hundreds of miles of new fiber-ready underground conduit, ensuring fast and resilient connectivity to major metropolitan areas. Additionally, BSDI affiliates will develop large-scale renewable energy and battery energy storage solutions on-site to support the campus's operations.
Through the development of the Big Sky Campus, the BSDI team expects to create numerous construction jobs and permanent positions, significantly contributing to local economic development and workforce training. This initiative marks a pivotal moment in Montana's journey towards becoming a key player in the digital economy, offering scalable, sustainable, and resilient infrastructure solutions for the future.
