Raleigh Rescue Mission Breaks Ground on Transformative Homeless Support Campus

A new community development project in Knightdale promises to dramatically improve support for situationally homeless women and children. The Raleigh Rescue Mission's The Garden campus will provide comprehensive services designed to help families achieve long-term stability and independence.

The facility will substantially increase capacity from the current 100-person nightly shelter to accommodate 300-350 women and children annually. With 101 rooms dedicated to families and individuals, The Garden represents a significant expansion of support services for vulnerable populations.

Beyond providing shelter, the project integrates critical support services including job training, mental and physical health resources, and financial literacy programs. The New Life Plan approach ensures residents receive comprehensive assistance to transition to sustainable living, including job placement, transportation, and stable housing.

Key features of The Garden include a Children's Learning Center capable of serving 150 children and the ability to provide 182,500 meals annually. The project reflects a holistic approach to addressing situational homelessness by creating an environment focused on empowerment and long-term community development.

The investment, facilitated through CAHEC New Markets' New Markets Tax Credit program, demonstrates a strategic approach to supporting low-income communities. Future development phases will include transitional housing apartments and a gymnasium, further enhancing the facility's comprehensive support model.

The broader development plan includes adjacent market-rate housing and a future commercial hub, signaling potential for creating an integrated, mixed-income neighborhood that promotes inclusion and economic opportunity.
