Rotary Club Celebrates 40 Years of Honoring Boca Raton's Outstanding Educators

The Rotary Club of Boca Raton Sunrise will host its 40th Annual Teacher of the Year Awards Celebration on March 26, 2026, continuing a four-decade tradition of recognizing educators who shape the community's future. The event, held at The Studio at Mizner Park from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., serves as a significant acknowledgment of teacher dedication and its broader societal impact.

Founded in 1987 by Rotarian and former Palm Beach County School Board Chairman Frank Barbieri, the awards have grown from honoring four teachers to recognizing 23 exceptional educators annually, with over 700 teachers celebrated to date. Barbieri emphasized that "great communities are built on the dedication of great teachers," underscoring how this sustained recognition reinforces the value of education in community development.

The celebration features collaborations that demonstrate the intersection of education and practical skills development. A gourmet cocktail reception and desserts will be prepared by students from the West Boca High School Academy of Culinary Arts, providing real-world experience for culinary students while showcasing their talents to the community.

The Rotary Club's partnership with the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce Golden Bell Education Foundation adds significant weight to the event's importance. This collaboration bridges the gap between education and business community support, with the foundation having donated over $2 million to Boca Raton public schools since 1991. These funds have benefited more than 1,200 classrooms and served over 900,000 students through programs focused on business skills development, career exploration, and workforce readiness.

The event's multimedia presentation honoring each teacher, combined with performances by student groups including the Spanish River Jazz Ensemble and Boca Raton High School Choral Group, creates a comprehensive celebration that highlights both educator achievements and student talent. This approach demonstrates how community recognition events can serve multiple purposes: honoring professionals, showcasing student development, and strengthening ties between educational institutions and business organizations.

The four-decade longevity of this awards program illustrates the enduring commitment to educational excellence within the Boca Raton community. By consistently recognizing outstanding educators, the Rotary Club and its partners reinforce the importance of quality teaching in developing future leaders and maintaining community vitality. The event serves as a model for how service organizations can create meaningful, sustained impact through strategic partnerships and focused recognition programs.
