Sea Tow Foundation Launches Final Video in Sober Skipper Series to Combat Boating Under the Influence

The Sea Tow Foundation has released the third installment of its 'Sober Skipper: Why It Matters' video series, focusing on preventing boating accidents through responsible decision-making. The campaign targets men ages 24-50, the demographic most at risk for boating under the influence (BUI) incidents, according to U.S. Coast Guard statistics.

Professional wakeboarder Thomas Herman serves as the focal point of the latest video, sharing insights into the critical role of staying sober while operating watercraft. Herman emphasizes the importance of having a designated sober skipper to ensure safety and enable participants to fully enjoy water sports activities.

Launching in conjunction with National Safe Boating Week, the video aims to educate boaters about the potential dangers of operating watercraft while impaired. The foundation's executive director, Gail R. Kulp, stressed that responsible choices can prevent tragedies and create safer boating experiences.

Water sports like wakeboarding require significant focus and quick decision-making, making sobriety paramount for participant safety. The campaign highlights that by designating a sober skipper, water sports enthusiasts can mitigate risks and protect themselves and others on the water.

The Sea Tow Foundation's ongoing mission is to reduce preventable accidents and fatalities through education and awareness programs. By targeting high-risk demographics and leveraging professional athletes like Herman, the foundation seeks to transform boating safety culture and promote responsible maritime behavior.
