Sean Kanan, Star of 'The Karate Kid Part III' and 'Cobra Kai,' to Receive Honor Day at Martial Arts History Museum
The Martial Arts History Museum will honor Sean Kanan on May 9, 2026, recognizing his contributions to martial arts, acting, and philanthropy, highlighting his role as Mike Barnes and his charitable work.

The Martial Arts History Museum in Glendale, California, will host a special Honor Day for Sean Kanan on Saturday, May 9, 2026, celebrating the actor's achievements in martial arts, entertainment, and philanthropy. Kanan is best known for playing the fan-favorite "Bad Boy" Mike Barnes in The Karate Kid Part III and recently reprised the role in the Netflix series Cobra Kai, introducing his character to a new generation. He also gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Deacon Sharpe on The Bold and the Beautiful, the most-watched daytime drama worldwide.
According to the museum, the event will feature photo montage videos, clips, a "This Is Your Life"-type segment, and tributes from peers and fans. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Kanan in person. Special guest presenters include Shihan Chris Pellitteri, a 9th-degree black belt; Darryl Vidal, a 10th-degree black belt and original The Karate Kid cast member; William Christopher Ford, a 5th-degree black belt who appeared alongside Kanan in The Karate Kid Part III; and Gerard L. Noonan, a 3rd-degree black belt. The museum will also screen "The Real Miyagi" at 12 PM and The Karate Kid Part III at 2 PM, followed by a Q&A session.
Kanan's philanthropic efforts are a key focus of the honor. He will donate a signed poster to support the Palisades Fire Residents Coalition, and the first 100 attendees will receive a special gift bag. "Sean Kanan embodies the spirit of martial arts both on and off the mat," said Michael Matsuda, President of the Martial Arts History Museum, in a statement. Kanan is a passionate advocate for youth mentorship, wellness, and community empowerment, reflecting the museum's mission to honor martial arts legends who contribute beyond their on-screen roles.
The event underscores the enduring impact of the Karate Kid franchise and its ability to bridge generations through pop culture and martial arts. Kanan's portrayal of Mike Barnes, initially a villain, has evolved into a beloved character thanks to Cobra Kai, which explores the complexities of former antagonists. This Honor Day not only celebrates his career but also highlights the positive influence of martial arts values in real-world philanthropy.
Tickets for the event, priced at $20, can be purchased through Eventbrite or the museum's website at https://martialartsmuseum.com/sean-kanan-honor-day-museum/. The museum is located at 201 N. Brand Blvd., B100, Glendale, CA 91203.
