Sonoma County Tool Library Estate Sale Supports Modernization and Access to Tool Lending
A community estate sale will benefit the Sonoma County Tool Library as it undergoes modernization under Executive Director Martin Reed to improve access to shared tools for residents.

The Sonoma County Tool Library, a nonprofit lending library that allows residents to borrow tools rather than purchase them, will receive proceeds from a community estate sale scheduled for Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 595 Hwy 116 N in Sebastopol. The event is part of a broader push to modernize the organization and increase its visibility across the county.
Martin Reed, a West Sonoma County real estate agent with eXp Realty, serves as Executive Director of the Tool Library, which is located at 427 Mendocino Ave inside coLAB in Santa Rosa. Reed is leading infrastructure improvements, volunteer and donor recruitment, and public awareness efforts to make the library easier for residents to find, use, and support. The nonprofit serves communities including Santa Rosa, Sebastopol, Graton, Forestville, and the broader West County.
The modernization includes a rebuilt public website at borrowtools.org, a migrated membership and lending system that now carries 2,858 borrower records, and a developing partnership with the Sonoma County Library. The organization is actively recruiting board members, volunteers, and donors to strengthen its role as a community resource for home repair, property upkeep, fire-wise maintenance, and sustainability.
“The Tool Library is a practical, neighbor-to-neighbor resource,” said Reed. “It helps people take care of their homes, gardens, repairs, and projects without having to buy every tool themselves. This Saturday’s estate sale gives the community a simple way to pitch in, and every dollar goes back into keeping tools available to Sonoma County residents who need them.”
For homeowners, renters, gardeners, DIY enthusiasts, and residents managing seasonal maintenance or fire-wise property upkeep, the Tool Library offers an affordable alternative to purchasing tools that may only be needed for a single project. By making shared tools available through a nonprofit lending model, the organization supports both affordability and sustainable resource use.
The June 13 estate sale provides an opportunity for residents to directly support the Tool Library while participating in a local community event in Sebastopol. Sale hours and additional details will be announced by the library. Residents interested in borrowing tools, supporting the organization, volunteering, donating, or learning more about the modernization efforts can visit the library’s website at borrowtools.org.
The estate sale highlights the importance of shared community resources and the ongoing efforts to ensure that tool lending remains accessible to Sonoma County residents. With the modernization initiatives, the Tool Library aims to expand its reach and impact, making it easier for people to maintain their homes and properties without the burden of purchasing expensive tools.
