Terra Innovatum Partners with ATB Riva Calzoni to Manufacture SOLO Micro-Modular Nuclear Reactor

Terra Innovatum Srl has signed a memorandum of understanding with ATB Riva Calzoni, a global nuclear component manufacturer, to develop and produce the SOLO micro-modular nuclear reactor, targeting commercial deployment by 2028. This partnership leverages ATB's century-long expertise in complex energy infrastructure and global presence, which includes operations in Europe, South America, and offices across the U.S., Canada, Africa, and Australia, to de-risk and scale production.

The collaboration marks a significant milestone in Terra Innovatum's mission to make nuclear power accessible through scalable, affordable solutions. Alessandro Petruzzi, CEO of Terra Innovatum, emphasized that the MOU is a major inflection point, enabling reliable, clean energy delivery where needed most. The SOLO reactor, conceptualized in 2018 and engineered over six years, uses commercial off-the-shelf components to minimize supply chain risks and ensure cost predictability, supporting both LEU+ and HALEU fuels.

Under the agreement, the companies will conduct joint feasibility studies, advance component design, safety evaluations, and regulatory assessments. ATB is expected to lead manufacturing and commissioning at commercialization, accelerating production scale-up. This framework positions Terra Innovatum for a market-ready solution that addresses global energy shortages, with applications ranging from data centers and remote towns to industrial sectors like cement production and mining.

The SOLO reactor offers versatile, CO2-free power and heat generation, capable of scaling to deliver over 1GW with a minimal footprint. It also supports medical applications by producing radioisotopes for oncology research and cancer treatment. By partnering with a manufacturer that services major U.S. and European nuclear companies, Terra Innovatum strengthens its path to industrialization, potentially setting new benchmarks in safety and sustainability for the nuclear industry.
