Trumark Companies has appointed 30-year industry veteran Steve Kalmbach as its first Chief Operating Officer to lead merger and acquisition activities and division operations across California and Colorado, signaling strategic growth ambitions to become the dominant regional homebuilder in the Western United States.

Trumark Companies has appointed Steve Kalmbach as its first Chief Operating Officer, a newly created executive position designed to support the company's strategic growth objectives across the Western United States. Kalmbach, who began his role on October 27, will oversee merger and acquisition activities and operations for the company's four divisions spanning Northern, Central, and Southern California, as well as Colorado.
The appointment represents a significant step in Trumark's vision to become the dominant regional homebuilder in the Western U.S. Co-founders and co-CEOs Gregg Nelson and Michael Maples emphasized the strategic importance of adding a Chief Operating Officer at this stage of the company's development. They stated that this move is essential for driving growth and maintaining operational excellence across all company divisions.
Kalmbach brings more than three decades of real estate industry experience to the position, with expertise spanning residential, industrial, retail, and mixed-use development. His most notable previous role was as Northern California Division President for PulteGroup, where he spent 18 years and was instrumental in facilitating the sales and construction of nearly 12,000 homes, generating over $10 billion in revenue. Under his leadership, Pulte became the Bay Area's largest builder of attached housing.
The new COO's educational background includes a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the Anderson School at University of California, Los Angeles, along with a bachelor's degree in political science from the same institution. His industry recognition includes induction into the California Homebuilding Foundation Hall of Fame in 2021, and he has served on the boards of several industry organizations including California Building Industry Association (CBIA), BIA Bay Area, and HomeAid of Northern California. Kalmbach will be based in Trumark's Southern California office.
