Ucore Rare Metals Breaks Ground on Louisiana Strategic Metals Complex, Advancing Domestic Rare Earth Supply Chain
Ucore Rare Metals is establishing its first commercial rare earth element refining facility in Louisiana, supported by significant government funding and aimed at reducing dependence on foreign rare earth supply chains. The project represents a strategic milestone in domestic critical minerals production.

Ucore Rare Metals will host a groundbreaking ceremony for its Louisiana Strategic Metals Complex, marking a significant step in developing a secure domestic rare earth element supply chain. The 80,800-square-foot facility, located at England Airpark in Alexandria, Louisiana, will utilize the company's proprietary RapidSX™ technology to produce high-purity rare earth oxides.
The project has secured substantial financial support, including an US$18.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Defense and over US$15 million in Louisiana state incentives. These investments underscore the strategic importance of domestic rare earth production for critical technologies, including electric vehicles, wind turbines, and national defense applications.
By establishing this refining facility, Ucore aims to disrupt the current rare earth supply chain dominated by the People's Republic of China. The Louisiana complex represents the first of several planned Strategic Metal Complexes designed to enhance North American critical minerals processing capabilities.
The facility's development aligns with broader national efforts to strengthen domestic manufacturing and reduce reliance on international supply chains for essential technological materials. Rare earth elements are crucial components in advanced technologies, making this project strategically significant for economic and technological independence.
