UGI Launches Major Gas Main Replacement Project in Lancaster City
UGI Utilities will undertake a comprehensive gas infrastructure upgrade in Lancaster, impacting multiple city streets and offering potential natural gas conversion opportunities for local residents and businesses.

UGI Utilities, Inc. is preparing to launch a significant gas main replacement project in Lancaster City, targeting critical infrastructure improvements and enhancing service reliability. The five-month initiative will focus on upgrading underground gas infrastructure in key areas near Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital and Musser Park.
The project will impact multiple street segments, including North Duke Street, East Frederick Street, East Chestnut Street, North Shippen Street, and East Marion Street. Construction is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with potential disruptions to traffic, parking, and temporary natural gas service interruptions.
This infrastructure upgrade represents a strategic investment in Lancaster's urban infrastructure, addressing aging gas distribution systems while simultaneously providing local property owners an opportunity to convert to natural gas service. The comprehensive project aims to improve safety, reliability, and energy infrastructure for the community.
Residents and businesses along the affected routes should anticipate potential road closures, detours, and traffic delays during construction hours. UGI will require property access to inspect and relight equipment following underground work. Final road restoration and paving will occur after primary construction is completed.
The project's completion is anticipated by September, though actual timelines may vary depending on weather conditions and specific working circumstances. By modernizing gas infrastructure, UGI is demonstrating its commitment to maintaining safe and efficient utility services for Lancaster City residents.
