The DFW Car & Toy Museum has expanded its collection with the addition of an exceptionally preserved 1983 Mazda RX-7 GSL, part of the Ron Sturgeon Collection, featuring fewer than 4,000 original miles on the odometer. This acquisition provides visitors with a rare opportunity to view one of the finest examples of Mazda's celebrated rotary-powered sports car in near-original condition.

The first-generation Mazda RX-7, launched in 1978, revolutionized the sports car market with its lightweight chassis, timeless styling, and innovative rotary engine technology. The GSL trim, introduced in the early 1980s, further elevated the RX-7's appeal with premium equipment and enhanced performance features that were considered state-of-the-art for its time.

At the heart of this preserved vehicle is Mazda's legendary 1.1-liter 12A rotary engine, factory rated at 100 horsepower and paired with a five-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. The GSL package also includes disc brakes at all four corners, providing confident stopping power that complemented the car's thrilling driving experience. Additional features include signature pop-up headlights, sunroof, electric windows, cruise control, air conditioning, and a factory cassette stereo complete with graphic equalizer and balancer.

The driver-focused interior features a leather-wrapped steering wheel framing a central 7,000-rpm redline tachometer, 130-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer confirms the vehicle's remarkable condition, showing just under 4,000 miles from new. Ron Sturgeon, owner of the DFW Car & Toy Museum, emphasized the significance of this acquisition, stating that finding an original example with such incredibly low mileage is extraordinary for a vehicle of this historical importance.

The 1983 Mazda RX-7 GSL is now on display among more than 200 collector vehicles and 3,000 vintage toys and memorabilia at the DFW Car & Toy Museum, located at 2550 McMillan Parkway in Fort Worth, Texas. The museum's new 150,000-square-foot facility offers free parking and admission, operating Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
