University of Notre Dame Launches Specialized Leadership Programs for Military Spouses
The Leadership Institute for Military Spouses and University of Notre Dame are introducing two targeted professional development programs exclusively for military spouse alumni, focusing on ethical leadership skills and mental health wellness to empower and support military families.

The Military Spouse Advocacy Network (MSAN) and the University of Notre Dame have unveiled two innovative educational programs designed specifically for military spouse leaders, targeting professional development and mental health resilience.
The collaboration introduces two specialized courses exclusively for alumni of the Leadership Institute for Military Spouses (LIMS) Leadership Development Program. Each course will accommodate 50 participants selected through a competitive application process.
The first program, Leadership in Ethics, will equip participants with critical leadership skills including conflict management, workplace communication, and ethical decision-making. The curriculum aims to develop military spouses as community leaders who can foster resilient and supportive environments.
The second course series addresses mental health challenges unique to military communities. Participants will learn to identify mental health risks, dispel common misconceptions, and develop strategies for personal and community wellness. The program emphasizes self-care, emotional resilience, and supportive intervention techniques.
Faculty from multiple Notre Dame departments, including the William J. Shaw Center for Children and Families and the Deloitte Center for Ethical Leadership, collaborated to design these comprehensive online courses. The multidisciplinary effort involves ten organizational units across the university.
MSAN President Verenice Castillo highlighted the partnership's significance, emphasizing the programs' potential to empower military spouses as community leaders and advocates. University President Rev. Robert A. Dowd underscored Notre Dame's longstanding commitment to supporting military service members and their families.
These programs represent a strategic effort to provide targeted, professional development resources for military spouses, recognizing their critical role in military community support and resilience.
