Weston Girl Scouts Transform Communities with Gold Award Projects
Five Weston Girl Scouts have earned the prestigious Gold Award by implementing innovative projects that address critical community issues, from environmental education to mental health and elderly care.
The Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor a Girl Scout can achieve, has been awarded to five Weston residents for their exceptional community service projects. Sophia Diaz, Anneliese Hsiao, Valerie Niksa, Julie Saff, and Victoria Valdivieso have each tackled significant challenges, demonstrating leadership, creativity, and a commitment to making a lasting difference.
Sophia Diaz's Shark-in-a-Box project aimed to change perceptions about sharks through educational kits, while Anneliese Hsiao addressed pet safety in South Florida with a comprehensive guide. Valerie Niksa focused on boosting self-esteem among young girls with her initiative, 'Looking Forward, Looking Back.' Julie Saff brought joy to elderly residents through her 'Memory Lane Music Program,' and Victoria Valdivieso eased children's fears about medical procedures with an illustrated book.
These projects not only highlight the girls' dedication to their communities but also underscore the importance of youth leadership in addressing societal challenges. The Gold Award recognizes their ability to identify problems, develop solutions, and inspire others to take action.
